Message from the MGA Board

MGA Members,

The MGA Board would like to welcome all returning and new MGA members in what we hope will be a great 2019 season of camaraderie and competitions.  We would like all MGA members to invite friends to join the MGA by contacting the proshop or signing up for a tournament on ForeTees.

MGA Dues
The MGA board has kept general MGA dues at $200 for the season in 2019.  GHIN handicap costs ($55) were billed separately in member’s February statement.  MGA dues are billed in April or as soon as new members participate in the MGA.  Dues include entry into all tournaments, prizes and some food/drink specials.  Some MGA events, like the Member/Member and 20 Mile Cup have additional entry fees for additional costs for those events.  Many events have additional optional side games for skins, closest to the pins, etc. for an additional $5-$20 cost.

Schedule
The 2019 MGA Schedule is very similar to the 2018 schedule.  All tournament sign-ups on ForeTees close on the Weds before the event at 3 PM.  For Pick Your Own Partner (PYOP) events, feel free to sign up individually and other MGA members can either join your registration or golf shop can put teams together after the sign-up closes. In the event a tournament is cancelled due to weather or another issue, the MGA will try to reschedule the event the following week and will ask members to sign-up again to confirm their participation on the new date.  If a tournament cannot be rescheduled quickly, the MGA will try to add the tournament back later in the season.  Maintaining a good pace of play is very important for all MGA events.  To that end, all individual stroke play events will be played with three somes.

20 Mile Cup Qualification
The MGA board decided to revert 20 Mile Cup qualification back to the 2017 system. 38 MGA members and 2 pros.

Each member’s best 2 gross or net scores in the M/M second round, Pinery Cup (both rounds), Individual Stoke Play and Last Chance qualifier determine the low 20 gross and low 18 net qualifiers.  Gross qualifiers are removed from the net list first.
MGA members wishing to attempt 20 Mile Cup qualification must declare their intent on ForeTees are to the Proshop/Starter before beginning a qualification round.

MGA Competition Rules for 2019
All MGA competitions will be played under the new 2019 USGA rules.  The MGA board is currently reviewing additional local rules to include during competitions.  All members are encouraged to attend one of the proshop 2019 rules seminars or watch the CGA video tutorials and work with playing partners on interpretations on new rules.  Playing a second ball and asking for a decision after the round is always recommended if there is a ruling question during play.

Handicaps
All MGA members must maintain a GHIN handicap.  New members will have their initial handicap determined by the proshop prior to having 10-20 posted current rounds.  MGA members are reminded that all scores must be posted per USGA rules. The handicap chairman can update member’s handicaps to ensure fair competition.
